Sit, Lay Down and Crawl on Your Minecraft Server with GSit

In normal Minecraft there's no way to sit down: you just stand in front of the table you built. GSit fixes that with a right click on a stair, and it also lets you lay down, crawl and even sit on a friend's head. It doesn't change the game at all, but on a friends or roleplay server it gets used every day. Here's how to install it, all its commands, how to set the language and how to turn off what you don't want.

What it does

GSit is a free plugin for Paper servers (Purpur and Folia too). With an empty hand, right click a stair, a slab, a carpet or a snow layer and you sit down. To get up, press sneak.

It also has poses by command: lay on your back, on your belly, with your legs up, spin around and crawl. And you can sit on top of another player, which is what gets the most laughs on a friends server.

It's all cosmetic: no advantage in the game and it doesn't touch the world. That's why it fits any server, including a serious survival one.

Rather not set it up yourself? Minecraft servers from €6 a month, no contract and a full refund within 72 hours. Or create a free Minecraft server, no card needed.

Installing it

It's a plugin, so it runs on Paper (what we set up by default), not on Fabric or Forge. If your server has mods, see mods and plugins together.

  1. Make a backup

If your server has backups, «Backups» → create one before adding plugins.

  2. Find it in «Mods & plugins»

Inside your server, open «Mods & plugins», search for GSit and press «Install». Only versions that work on yours show up: 3.7.0 (September 2026), for example, is already for 26.3. It doesn't need any other plugin.

  3. Restart

Press «Restart». On startup it creates the plugins/GSit folder with its config.yml and the languages.

  4. Try it

Join, empty hand, right click a stair. If you sit down, you're done. If not, check the «Console» for a GSit error on startup.

Sitting with a click

By default it works on stairs, slabs, carpets (moss and pale moss carpet too), snow layers and shelf mushrooms. Only the bottom half: you can't sit on an upside-down stair or slab.

Your hand has to be empty, so you don't sit by accident while placing blocks. And if someone breaks the block you're sitting on, you stand up.

To sit wherever you are, on any block, type /sit. If a player finds click-sitting annoying, /sit toggle turns it off just for them (and again to turn it back on).

To allow more blocks (logs, wooden blocks for a bench), add them to SitMaterials in config.yml, using their Minecraft name. You'll find the names in the Minecraft item ID list.

plugins/GSit/config.yml (the Sit part)
Sit:
  SitMaterials:
    - "#stairs"
    - "#slabs"
    - "#carpets"
    - "#wool_carpets"
    - "moss_carpet"
    - "pale_moss_carpet"
    - "shelf_mushroom"
    - "snow"
    - "oak_log"

The commands

/sit: sit where you are. /lay: lay on your back. /bellyflop: lay on your belly. /legsup: lying with your legs up. /spin: spin around. /crawl: crawl, like when you go through a one-block gap. To stop any of them, sneak.

Each one also has a long name with a g in front (/gsit, /glay, /gcrawl…), in case another plugin already uses /sit.

/gsitreload reloads config.yml without restarting the server. It's for operators.

Sitting on another player

With an empty hand, right click another player and you climb onto their head. Several can stack up. The one at the bottom shakes them off by sneaking.

Anyone who doesn't want people climbing on them uses /sit playertoggle. It also works with NPCs (from Citizens, for example).

If it turns into a way to annoy people on your server, turn it off for everyone with allow-sit: false in the PlayerSit part of config.yml, or cap the tower with max-stack (by default 0: no limit).

Setting the language

It already comes with messages in many languages. By default, each player sees them in the language set in their own Minecraft (client-lang: true), so if you play in English, you get English.

If you want one language for everyone, whatever their client says, set lang to that one (en_us, es_es…) and client-lang to false, then type /gsitreload in the «Console» (without the slash) or restart.

plugins/GSit/config.yml (the top)
Lang:
  lang: en_us
  client-lang: false

Turning off what you don't want

By default, every player can do everything: sit, lay down, crawl and climb on others. To take one thing away from everyone, deny its permission to the default group with LuckPerms, one command at a time in the «Console»: lp group default permission set GSit.Crawl false removes crawling, and the same with GSit.Lay, GSit.BellyFlop, GSit.LegsUp, GSit.Spin or GSit.PlayerSit.

To block it in one world (a minigame world, for example), put its name in WorldBlacklist, inside Options. To let people sit only on their own land, trusted-region-only: true, which works with GriefPrevention and PlotSquared.

While someone is sitting or lying down they can't use the commands in CommandBlacklist (by default skin and nick, which would leave them in a weird pose). Add your own if one causes trouble.

Making the most of it

Build places to sit: stair benches at spawn, a tavern with slab stools, chairs around the council table. A spawn where people sit down to talk feels much more alive.

On a roleplay server, laying down and crawling go a long way: wounded on the ground, hiding spots, prisoners. Together with Citizens NPCs and holograms, spawn looks like a real town.

If you don't have a server yet, at NapNodes you can create a Minecraft one for free, no card, with Paper: install GSit from «Mods & plugins» and in five minutes you're sitting with your friends on the spawn bench.

Frequently asked questions

How do you sit in Minecraft?

In normal Minecraft you can't. On a server with the GSit plugin, right click a stair, a slab or a carpet with an empty hand, or use the /sit command. To get up, sneak.

What plugin lets you sit in Minecraft?

GSit is the most used one: free, on Modrinth, for Paper, Purpur and Folia, and up to date with 26.3. Besides sitting it lets you lay down (/lay), crawl (/crawl) and sit on top of another player.

How do I change GSit's language?

It already ships with many languages and, by default, each player sees the one their Minecraft uses. To force one for everyone, in plugins/GSit/config.yml set lang (en_us, es_es…) and client-lang: false, then type gsitreload in the console.

How do you crawl in Minecraft?

With GSit, the /crawl command. Sneak to stand up. If you set double-sneak to true in config.yml, you also start crawling by pressing sneak twice while looking at the ground.

How do I stop people sitting on me?

With /sit playertoggle, just for you. If someone climbs on, sneak and they fall off. To turn it off for the whole server, allow-sit: false in the PlayerSit part of config.yml.

Does GSit work on Fabric or Forge?

No: it's a plugin and runs on Paper, Purpur or Folia servers. On a modded server you need a mod that does the same.

Shall we set it up for you?

Minecraft servers from €6 a month, never oversold: your RAM is yours alone. And if you'd rather start without paying, there's a free Minecraft server, no card needed.

Your server doesn't show up in the game? Check it in a second with “Is my Minecraft server online?”: players, version and MOTD, free. Need a player's UUID for the whitelist or permissions? Look it up here. Handing out enchanted items? Build the command with the /give generator.
