Ping test to our servers

Before you set up the server, see how much lag you'd have. Press the button and your browser measures, from your connection, how long it takes to reach the machines where NapNodes servers are created. It works the same for Minecraft, Project Zomboid, Valheim and Hytale.

How to read the result

  • Up to 50 ms: like playing in the same city. Not even PvP notices.
  • 50 to 100 ms: plays well, nothing noticeable when building or exploring.
  • 100 to 150 ms: a little noticeable in fast combat. For building, surviving or exploring with friends, no problem.
  • Over 150 ms: playable, but noticeable. It happens on distant connections or bad Wi-Fi: measure again on a cable before deciding.

Have each friend measure from home: ping belongs to each player, not to the server. If one is on Wi-Fi far from the router, that's who will notice the lag. And ping isn't the same as the server's own lag (when it stutters even though everyone has good ping): that's RAM or CPU, and you check it in the panel's Performance tab.

Frequently asked questions

What's a good ping for gaming?

Up to 50 ms you notice nothing; up to 100 it plays well; between 100 and 150 you notice it in PvP and when jumping, but for building or surviving with friends it's fine; above that it gets annoying.

Is it the same number I'll see in the game?

Very close. The test makes real https requests to the machine and drops the first one (the one that opens the connection); the server takes a moment to answer each, so if anything it reads a little higher than the in-game ping.

Why are there two machines?

Servers are created on one of the two, whichever has room when you ask. Both reach the internet through the same place, but the second has one extra hop, so it may read a little differently.

It shows “—”. What's wrong?

Your browser didn't reach the machine. It's almost always an ad blocker or a work or school firewall that only lets port 443 out. Try without the blocker, from home or on mobile data.

How do I lower my ping?

Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi, stop downloads and videos while you play and, on a home connection, restart the router. Distance can't be fixed: that's why it's worth measuring first.

Looked good? Try it by playing

The free server runs on those same machines: no card, you start it when you want to play and it stops on its own when nobody's on. If you like it, you move to a plan with the same world.
