Minecraft /summon command generator
Pick the mob and, if you like, a coloured name, more health, another size, its gear and whether it stands still. The command shows up below, written the way your server's version reads it, ready to copy.
Equipment none · change
Item ids, like diamond_sword or netherite_helmet. Only mobs that can wear gear carry it (zombies, skeletons, piglins…).
/summon zombie ~ ~ ~ {PersistenceRequired:1b}How to use the command
- Make yourself an operator: in the server console,
op YourName(it's in the guide to admin commands, in Spanish). - Stand where you want it to appear, copy the command and paste it into the game chat (T key), with the slash in front.
- If it's very long, the chat cuts it at 256 characters: paste it into a command block or the server console, without the slash and with fixed coordinates.
Ideas for your server
- A boss for an event: a zombie with an always-visible red name, 100 health points, size 2 and a diamond sword. Announce it in chat first with the /tellraw generator.
- A shopkeeper at spawn: a villager that stands still, is invulnerable and doesn't despawn, named after the shop.
- A prize: the item is given separately, with the /give generator.
Why it changes with the version
The shape of /summon has been the same since 1.13: summon <mob> x y z {tag}. What changes is what goes inside the tag. Since 1.21.5 (and in 26.x) the name goes as it is, CustomName:{"text":"Boss"}, and gear in equipment:{mainhand:…}; before, the name was text in single quotes and gear was two lists (HandItems and ArmorItems, armour from feet to head). Attributes such as max health went lowercase in 1.21 and lost the “generic.” prefix in 1.21.2.
Frequently asked questions
I copied a /summon and the mob shows up with no name or gear
The game doesn't throw an error for a field it doesn't know: it ignores it. In 1.21.5 the name stopped being JSON in quotes and gear moved from HandItems and ArmorItems to equipment; in 1.21 attributes went lowercase and in 1.21.2 they lost the “generic.” prefix. Pick your version above and the command comes out the way your server reads it.
Why doesn't its health go up even though I set Health?
Because current health can't go above the maximum. You have to raise the max_health attribute too, and the generator sets both at once.
Where do I type the command?
In the game chat, with the slash in front, if you're an operator (op). Or in the panel's Console, without the slash; from there ~ ~ ~ isn't where you're standing, so use fixed coordinates (you see them with F3).
How do I stop it from despawning?
Tick “Doesn't despawn” (PersistenceRequired). Without it, a summoned hostile mob can disappear on its own when nobody's near, like the ones that spawn at night.
Can I make a giant mob?
Yes, from 1.20.5 on, with the size: 2 is double, 16 the maximum. In earlier versions that attribute doesn't exist.
Does it work for Bedrock?
No. Bedrock's /summon takes no data tag: it accepts the mob, the position, an event and a name, and nothing about health or gear.
No server yet?
At NapNodes you get a free Minecraft server, no card, on Paper and the latest version, with the panel's Console to type these commands. And if you want to play with no queues and the server always on, the plans have RAM reserved for you alone, with each machine's load public on the status page.
