Minecraft /tellraw and /title generator
Write the message in parts, give each one its colour and formatting, and add a clickable link if you like (your Discord invite, for example). You see it as it looks in the game and copy the command.
The command
/tellraw @a {"text":"","extra":[{"text":"[Notice] ","color":"gold","bold":true},{"text":"The server restarts in 5 minutes. ","color":"yellow"},{"text":"Join our Discord","color":"aqua","underlined":true,"click_event":{"action":"open_url","url":"https://discord.gg/"},"hover_event":{"action":"show_text","value":"Opens the invite"}}]}333 characters. Only 256 fit in the game chat: paste it into the server console (without the leading slash) or a command block.
Ideas for your server
- Restart warning: a big /title to everyone a few minutes before, so nobody gets a nasty surprise.
- Your Discord link in chat, opening with one click.
- Server rules in colour, to paste whenever someone new joins.
- Events: “The race starts now!” above the hotbar with actionbar.
To send it automatically, every so often or when someone joins, you need a plugin or a datapack; for more admin commands, see the guide Minecraft server admin commands (in Spanish).
Frequently asked questions
What is /tellraw for?
To send a formatted message to the chat of the players you choose: colours, bold, clickable links and text that shows on hover. Unlike /say, it doesn't put the sender's name in front.
And /title?
It puts text in big letters in the middle of the screen (title), smaller underneath (subtitle) or just above the hotbar (actionbar). The subtitle only shows together with a title: send the subtitle first and then the title.
Where do I type the command?
In the game chat, if you're an operator (/op), or in the server console without the leading slash. The chat only fits 256 characters; if it's longer, use the console or a command block.
I get an error when I paste it. Why?
It's almost always the version: this tool's links and hover text use the format from Minecraft 1.21.5 onwards (click_event and hover_event). On older versions, remove the link and the hover text and the rest works the same.
Does it work on Bedrock?
Not as it is: Bedrock also has /tellraw and /titleraw, but without named colours or links, and with a different format. This tool is for Minecraft Java (Paper, Spigot, Fabric or Forge too).
Can I use colours other than the usual 16?
Yes: with “Other colour” you pick any one and it comes out as #rrggbb, which works from 1.16 onwards.
No server yet?
At NapNodes you get a free Minecraft server, no card, with the console in the panel to send these commands from your browser.
