Minecraft /fill and /clone command generator

Paste the two corners of the area (what F3 shows), pick the block and copy the command. If the area is over 32,768 blocks, instead of the game's error you get several commands that fit and do the same thing, hollow boxes and outlines included.

63,257 blocks. Over the 32,768 limit: split into 3 commands that do the same. Paste them in order.

/fill 100 64 -200 160 71 -140 stone /fill 100 72 -200 160 79 -140 stone /fill 100 80 -200 160 80 -140 stone

How /fill is written

/fill x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2 block [mode]. The two coordinates are opposite corners of a box, and both are included: X 0 to X 9 is 10 blocks. With no mode, it changes everything inside (replace). The modes: hollow (hollow box), outline (just the shell), keep (only where there's air), destroy (like mining by hand, dropping items) and replace followed by a block to change only that one.

To read the coordinates, press F3 and look at the block: the «Targeted Block» line gives the coordinates of the block you're looking at, the easiest way to mark an exact corner.

How /clone is written

/clone x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2 x y z [replace|masked] [normal|force|move]. The first two are the area you copy; the third is the lowest corner (smallest X, Y and Z) of where you paste it. masked doesn't copy air, to paste a build without wiping what's around it; move leaves the original empty; force is needed if the two areas overlap.

The 32,768-block limit on your server

If you do a lot of building, raise it once and skip the splitting. As an operator: /gamerule max_block_modifications 200000 (on 1.19.4 to 1.21.10, commandModificationBlockLimit). It's saved in the world, so it sticks after a restart. All the game rules and their old names are in the gamerules guide.

At NapNodes you don't even have to type it: in the panel, under «Settings», find «Command modification block limit» in the game rules and change it with the server running; it's applied to the Overworld, the Nether and the End at once. For really big jobs (pasting builds, copying half the map), WorldEdit beats /fill: you select with the wooden axe, copy and paste with a command, and it has undo.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say «too many blocks in the specified area»?

Because /fill and /clone change at most 32,768 blocks at once (for example 32 × 32 × 32). The whole box counts, even if you only fill the outline. Either split it into several commands, which is what this tool does, or raise the server limit with the max_block_modifications game rule.

How do I raise the 32,768 limit?

With /gamerule max_block_modifications 100000 on 1.21.11 or later; from 1.19.4 to 1.21.10 the rule is called commandModificationBlockLimit. Before 1.19.4 the limit is fixed. Don't overdo it: a /fill of millions of blocks freezes the server for a good while.

What's the difference between hollow and outline?

Both put the block on the walls, floor and ceiling. hollow also empties the inside (turns it into air); outline leaves the inside alone. For an empty room, hollow; to wrap something that's already built, outline.

How do I change only one type of block?

With replace and the block you want to change after it: /fill … stone replace dirt turns dirt into stone and leaves everything else. The filter also takes a tag, like #minecraft:logs for every kind of log.

It says «that position is not loaded»

/fill and /clone only work in loaded chunks. Go closer to the area, or load it first with /forceload add and the two corners (and remove it afterwards with /forceload remove).

Does it work in Bedrock?

The tool is made for Java. In Bedrock /fill and /clone are written almost the same way and have the same 32,768-block limit, but some blocks have different names.

Building together in a world that only exists when one of you opens it?

With a server, the world stays there even when the host isn't playing, and everyone joins whenever they like. At NapNodes your plan's RAM is yours alone and the load on each machine is public on the status page. Try it with a free Minecraft server, no card and no end date; more operator commands in the admin commands guide.
