Is my Valheim server online?

Type the server's address and port, the same ones you use in “Join game”. We query it the way Steam's server browser does and tell you whether it replies, what it's called, how many players are on and which version it runs.

If it says “Not responding”

It's almost always one of these: the server is offline or still starting, that's not its port, or it can't be reached from outside (router or firewall: Valheim needs the game port and the next one open over UDP, 2456 and 2457 by default). It may also have been started without -public 1: then it doesn't reply to anyone even while it's online, and you can still join with the IP. It's explained step by step in “How to join a Valheim dedicated server” (in Spanish).

Frequently asked questions

Which port do I enter?

The game port, the one you use to join (2456 unless someone changed it). Valheim answers these queries on the next one (2457); we try both at once.

Why does it say 0 players when people are on?

Because the server has crossplay turned on: then Valheim always reports 0 players. The server is online all the same; the player count is the only thing that's wrong.

It says “Not responding” but my friends can join

Most likely it was started with -public 0: then it doesn't answer queries or show up in Steam's list, but you can still join with the IP. It can also be a firewall that lets the game port through but not the next one, which is the query port.

Do you store the addresses I check?

No. The server is queried on the spot and the answer is forgotten within a few seconds.
