Hytale config.json editor

Paste your server's config.json (and, if you like, a world's). If it has a format error, we tell you which line it's on and why; if not, you change each option by its plain-English name and take away the file with only those values changed. The seed and everything else, untouched.

The server's config.json

Paste the contents of Server/config.json. It's created the first time you start the server.

A world's config.json (optional)

Paste the contents of universe/worlds/<world>/config.json. It's created the first time you start the server.

Where the two config.json files are

The server's is in the folder it starts from; with the official launcher, Server/config.json. Each world's is in universe/worlds/<world name>/config.json. Both are created the first time you start the server. What each option does, step by step, in Hytale's config.json, option by option.

If the server still won't start

If the format is fine and it still shuts down, check the Java version (it has to be 25), the mods and the memory: they're all in why a Hytale server won't start. And if it loads an empty world, check “World”: it has to match your world's folder name (how to upload your world).

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Hytale server say “Failed to read server config!”?

Because config.json has a format error: an extra comma after the last option, a missing one between two, unclosed quotes or a comment. Paste it above and it tells you the line and the column.

Why do my config.json changes disappear?

Because you made them with the server running: Hytale rewrites its files while it runs and when it shuts down. Stop it, edit the file and start it.

Why isn't the seed touched?

The seed (Seed) is a very long number that many editors round when they save the whole JSON, and then the part of the world still to be generated no longer matches what's already there. Here only the values you change are replaced, in place: everything else comes out the same.

Why does an option show as “not in your file”?

Because your server version didn't write it. The editor doesn't add new options: if the server doesn't know it, it would do nothing.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser; the password and everything else never leave your computer.

On NapNodes, without touching the JSON

In our panel these options are in “Settings”: name, welcome message, password, players, game mode, world, view distance, PvP, fall damage and creatures. While the server is running they're locked and it asks you to stop it, so nothing gets lost; and updates come already set to install themselves when nobody is on. You can try it with a free Hytale server, no card and no end date.
