Got a name: what next?
- In Minecraft, put it in the MOTD in colour: MOTD generator.
- Give it an address that's easy to remember (at NapNodes, from the panel, as explained below).
- If there are going to be lots of you, see how many players a Minecraft server can handle (in Spanish).
Frequently asked questions
How do I pick a good name for my server?
Short (one or two words), easy to say out loud and to spell without thinking: if you have to spell it out on Discord, it's too long. Make it say what it's about (survival, PvP, roleplay) and check that no well-known server already uses it: search for it on Google and Discord first.
Where does the name go on a Minecraft server?
The name in the Multiplayer list is typed by each player when they add the server, so you don't control it. What everyone sees is the MOTD, the text underneath: put the name there in colour with our MOTD generator and the motd= line in server.properties.
Can I use the name in the server's address?
At NapNodes, yes: in the panel, on the “Address to play” card, click “Change” and you get something like yourname.play.napnodes.com (letters, numbers and hyphens, at least 3). If another server already has it, the panel tells you.
Are the names free to use?
They're random combinations of everyday words, not checked against trademarks or other servers. For a group of friends it doesn't matter; if you want to build a big community, search for it first in case someone already uses it.
No server yet?
At NapNodes you get a free server, no card needed, for Minecraft, Hytale, Project Zomboid or Valheim, with its own address and the name you choose.
