Server rules generator

Pick the game, tick the rules you want (the most common ones come ticked), add your own and copy the text in the format of wherever you're pasting it: your Discord rules channel, a sign or book in the game, or the Project Zomboid welcome message. It all happens in your browser.

**📜 Server rules**

**1.** Respect everyone: no insults, harassment, racism, sexism or homophobia.
**2.** Don't share personal information, yours or anyone else's: address, phone number, photos or where someone goes to school.
**3.** No spam: no repeating messages, writing in all caps or flooding the chat.
**4.** Don't advertise other servers, channels or websites without staff permission.
**5.** No sexual or offensive content in chat, names, skins or anything you build.
**6.** Staff decisions are respected. If you disagree, talk it over in private, not in general chat.
**7.** No cheating: hacks, x-ray, macros, or mods and programs that give you an advantage.
**8.** If you find a bug (duplicating items, going through walls…), tell the staff: exploiting it will be punished.
**9.** Don't break, steal or change what others have built (griefing), even if it isn't protected.
**10.** PvP only if both players agree or in PvP zones. Killing someone who doesn't want to fight will be punished.
**11.** Ask before building huge farms or redstone machines that run non-stop: they make the server slow for everyone.

**If the rules are broken**
- 1st time: warning.
- 2nd time: kick (you can join again).
- 3rd time: ban for a few days.
- After that: permanent ban.
- Cheating, harassment or sharing other people's personal information: straight to a ban, no warning.

By joining, you accept these rules. Questions? Ask the staff.

Rules that actually get followed

  1. Short and specific. “Don't break what others have built” is clear; “be a good person” can't be enforced.
  2. With what happens if not. Written punishments avoid arguments: nobody can say they didn't know.
  3. The same for everyone. If a friend gets away with what costs someone else a ban, the rules stop meaning anything.
  4. Before you need them. Post them before you invite people from outside, not after the first grief.

Enforcing them

Frequently asked questions

How many rules should a server have?

Few: between 6 and 10. Nobody reads a long list of rules, and then nobody knows which one they broke. Keep the ones you'll actually enforce and leave the obvious to common sense.

Where do I put the rules on my Minecraft server?

Minecraft has no built-in place for rules: the usual spots are a sign or a book at spawn and the rules channel on your Discord. If you use a rules plugin, paste the plain text there.

And in Project Zomboid?

In the server's welcome message, which everyone sees in chat when they join. Pick Project Zomboid and the “Zomboid welcome message” format: it goes on a single line with <LINE> where the game should break it. At NapNodes it's under “Settings”, in “The essentials” block (or type “welcome” in its search box).

What if someone breaks them?

Do what they say, the same for everyone, friends included: a warning, a kick and a ban, in that order, and straight to a ban for the serious stuff. If a rule is never enforced, better remove it than leave it there for show.

Can I use these rules on my server?

Yes, they're yours: copy them, change them and mix them with your own. No need to credit us.

No server yet?

At NapNodes you get a free server, no card needed, for Minecraft, Hytale, Project Zomboid or Valheim, to try out your rules with your friends.
