Minecraft /bossbar command generator

The bar at the top of the screen, but yours: type the text, pick the colours and the style, say how full it is and who sees it. You see it as in the game and copy the commands.

Event: dragon hunt!

The commands, in this order

/bossbar add napnodes:evento {"text":"Event: dragon hunt!","color":"gold","bold":true} /bossbar set napnodes:evento color purple /bossbar set napnodes:evento style notched_10 /bossbar set napnodes:evento value 70 /bossbar set napnodes:evento players @a

One after another, in the game chat if you're an operator or in the server console without the leading slash.

For later

  • Move the bar (to 50, for example): /bossbar set napnodes:evento value 50
  • Hide it without deleting it: /bossbar set napnodes:evento visible false
  • Show it to players who joined later too: /bossbar set napnodes:evento players @a
  • Delete it: /bossbar remove napnodes:evento
  • List all the bars: /bossbar list

Ideas for your server

  • Events: «Event: dragon hunt!» while it lasts, and deleted when it's over.
  • Shared goals: «Blocks for the cathedral» with a max of 5000, and the bar moves forward when you update it.
  • Countdown before a restart or the start of a match, linked to a scoreboard with /execute store.
  • Notices that don't get lost: your Discord address or the rules, at the top and without flooding the chat (for the chat, the /tellraw and /title generator).

On a NapNodes server, commands go in «Console» (without the slash). For more admin commands, see the Minecraft admin commands guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is /bossbar?

The command to put a bar like the Ender Dragon's or the Wither's at the top of the screen, but with your text, your colour and as full as you say. It's for events, countdowns, server goals or notices that don't get lost in the chat.

I created the bar and nobody sees it, why?

Nobody sees a new bar until you say who: /bossbar set <id> players @a. That's why the tool always adds it at the end.

Players who join later don't see it

That's normal: «players @a» points at whoever is online at that moment. Type /bossbar set <id> players @a again when someone joins, or run it every so often from a repeating command block or a datapack function.

How do I make it move on its own, like a countdown?

By changing the value with /bossbar set <id> value <number> each time, or by copying a scoreboard: /execute store result bossbar <id> value run scoreboard players get <player> <objective>. That goes in a repeating command block or in a function that runs every tick.

Is it deleted when the server restarts?

No: bars are saved with the world and are still there after a restart. To remove it, /bossbar remove <id>.

Does it work on Bedrock?

No: /bossbar is Minecraft Java only (Paper, Spigot, Fabric or Forge too). You have to be an operator, or type it in the server console.

No server yet?

At NapNodes you get a free Minecraft server, no card needed, on Paper and the latest version, with the panel console to send these commands from your browser.
