Minecraft skin viewer

Type a Minecraft Java player's name and we'll show you their skin from the front, with the hat and jacket layers on. You can download the PNG, see whether it has slim or classic arms, and copy the commands to bring it to your server or give their head.

Wearing a skin you've downloaded

  1. Download the PNG with the button above and note whether it has slim or classic arms.
  2. In the official Minecraft Launcher, go to Minecraft: Java Edition, the Skins tab, and add a new one with that file.
  3. Pick the same arm type we showed you and save it. You'll see it when you join any server that checks accounts.

Skins on your server

A normal server (with online-mode=true in server.properties) shows everyone with their own skin without doing anything. If you want players to change it inside the server, or yours is a cracked server where everyone looks the same, the plugin for it is SkinsRestorer: with it, /skin set Name gives you that account's skin. Cracked servers and their risks are covered in the cracked servers guide.

On a NapNodes server (Paper), plugins are installed from Mods & plugins by searching for their name, then press Restart.

A player's head

For a trophy, a statue or the spawn shop: the command above gives you their head with their skin. From 1.20.5 on it uses [profile=…]; up to 1.20.4, SkullOwner. Type it in chat (with operator permissions) or in the server console without the leading slash, replacing @p with the name of whoever gets it. More commands in the admin commands guide and the /give generator.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see any player's skin?

Any Minecraft Java account's, yes: skins are public, the game shows them to everyone you play with. All you need is their name (or their UUID). It doesn't work for Bedrock or for names that aren't a real account.

What do “slim” and “classic” mean?

The width of the arms: classic is 4 pixels, like Steve, and slim is 3, like Alex. A skin made for slim, uploaded as classic, shows a stripe on the arms. When you upload it to the launcher, pick the same one shown here.

I changed my skin and the old one shows up here

Mojang can take a little while to serve the new one, and we remember each lookup for 10 minutes. Try again in a bit.

Why does everyone look like Steve or Alex on my server?

Almost always because the server has online-mode=false: without checking accounts, it doesn't know which skin each player wears. The SkinsRestorer plugin fixes it, and also lets players pick a skin with /skin set Name.

Can I use someone else's skin?

Plenty of people play with one (that's what /skin set does). If it's a creator's, say whose it is; what's not okay is selling it or passing it off as your own.

Playing together?

To show off the skin with your friends you need somewhere to play. NapNodes has a free Minecraft server, no card needed, that starts when you want to play. And if you already have one, the UUID lookup gives you the whitelist entries.
