Minecraft firework rocket generator

Design each explosion of the rocket (shape, colours, the colour it fades to, trail and twinkle), see how it bursts and copy the command: /give to have them in your inventory or /summon to launch them from a command block at your server's event.

/give @p firework_rocket[fireworks={flight_duration:2,explosions:[{shape:"large_ball",colors:[11743532,14602026],fade_colors:[15435844],has_trail:true}]}] 16
157 characters · can also be crafted

How to use it on your server

  1. You need to be an operator (/op your_name from the server console), or paste it in the console without the leading slash.
  2. If the command is over 256 characters, the chat won't take all of it: use the console or a command block.
  3. For a show, one command block per rocket with the /summon, in a row with repeaters between them, and a lever or a button to start.

Command blocks have to be enabled: on a NapNodes server, under «Settings» → «Game rules» → «Enable Command Blocks», and commands go in «Console». The game rules are explained in the Minecraft gamerules guide. More useful commands in the Minecraft admin commands guide.

What each ingredient does

  • Gunpowder in the rocket: how high it goes (1 to 3).
  • Dyes in the firework star: the colours of the explosion; added later to the finished star, the colour they fade to.
  • Shape: fire charge (large ball), gold nugget (star), a mob head (creeper) or feather (burst); with nothing, small ball.
  • Diamond: trail. Glowstone dust: twinkle.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a firework command copied from a video give an error?

Because the format changed: up to 1.20.4 it was written with «Fireworks:{Explosions:[…]}» and numbers for the shape; from 1.20.5, with the «fireworks=» component and the shape by name; and in 1.21.5 the colours became a plain list. Pick your version above and the command comes out in the form your server understands.

What's the difference between /give and /summon?

/give puts the rockets in your inventory, to launch by hand or with elytra. /summon makes the rocket appear already lit wherever you say, with nobody firing it: that's the one you put in a command block for a show.

How do I put on a firework show on my server?

Place several command blocks with /summon (each with a different rocket) and chain them with repeaters so they go off one after another, or fire them from the console. Command blocks have to be enabled: from 1.21.9 it's the «command_blocks_work» game rule, before that «enable-command-block» in server.properties.

Can I use colours that don't come from dyes?

With commands, yes: the colour is an RGB number and any value works. This tool uses the 16 dye colours, which are also the ones you can craft; it tells you whether your rocket can be crafted or only exists through commands.

How many explosions can a rocket have?

At the crafting table, up to 7 firework stars (the paper and gunpowder take the other slots). With commands many more fit, but past a few you can't tell them apart in the sky and the command gets long: here, up to 8.

Does it work on Bedrock?

No: these are Minecraft Java commands. Bedrock doesn't let you give rockets with custom explosions with /give.

Want to give other items with enchantments or a coloured name? Use the /give command generator.
