Minecraft player head generator

A player's head with their skin, a custom texture head to decorate with (a present, a pumpkin, a globe…) or a mob head. Pick your server's version and copy the command.

/give @p player_head[profile={name:"Notch"}]
44 characters

How to use the command

  1. Make yourself an operator: in the server console, op YourName (it's in the guide on admin commands).
  2. Copy the command and paste it into the game chat (T key), with the slash in front.
  3. Texture heads make long commands: if it's over 256 characters, the chat cuts it. Paste it into the server console, without the slash.

The two forms of a head

Up to 1.20.4 the head took the SkullOwner tag in curly brackets: player_head{SkullOwner:"Notch"}. Since 1.20.5 it takes the profile component in square brackets: player_head[profile={name:"Notch"}], the same in 1.21 and 26.x. A server only understands its own.

With a texture, the old form also needs a fixed Id so two identical heads stack: the generator works it out from the texture itself, so the same head always gives the same command.

Ideas for your server

  • Prize for an event or a vote: the winner's head, for their base.
  • Spawn decoration without mods: texture heads as small blocks.
  • Mob heads for a trophy room.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my SkullOwner command give an error?

Because that form is from 1.20.4 or older. Since 1.20.5 the head takes the profile component in square brackets, like player_head[profile={name:"Notch"}]. Pick your version above and you get the form your server understands.

Where do I get a custom texture head?

From any Minecraft heads website: each head has a “Value” (a long base64 string) or the address of its texture on textures.minecraft.net. Paste whatever they give you and the generator builds the command.

The head shows Steve's or Alex's skin

That happens when the name isn't a Minecraft account or is misspelt. A player head shows the skin of the account with that name; if the player changes skin or name, the head may keep the old one. For something that never changes, use a texture head.

Where do I type the command?

In the game chat, with a slash in front, if you're an operator (op). Or in the server console, without the slash and with the name of whoever gets it: the @s selector doesn't work from the console.

Does it work on Bedrock?

No. Bedrock has no player heads with /give; only mob heads.

No server yet?

At NapNodes you get a free Minecraft server, no card needed, with the panel's console to type these commands. And if you want to play without queues and with the server always on, plans have the RAM reserved for you alone and each machine's load is public on the status page.
