Archive and restore a server without losing the world

Dropped Valheim to go back to Minecraft? No need to delete anything. Archiving stops the server, keeps its world and files exactly as they are and frees all its RAM for another one. When you want to go back, “Restore” and you're done.

What “Archive” does

It stops the server and frees its RAM, which is left free in your account to create another or give to one with “Adjust”. Its world, mods, settings and files stay exactly as they are.

An archived server can't be started or opened until you restore it. It still uses disk, but only what its files take up (plus 10%): the rest of what it had is left free.

The servers on your plans can be archived. The free one can't: it stops by itself when nobody's on, and stopped it costs nothing.

No server yet? Game servers from €6 a month, no contract and a full refund within 72 hours. Or create a free server, no card needed.

How to archive a server

  1. Open “Adjust” on its card

    In “My servers”.

  2. Press “Archive”

It tells you how much RAM will be freed. Confirm with “Archive it”.

  3. Wait for it to stop

The card says “Archiving… (stopping it)” and then “Archived (uses no RAM)”. It finishes by itself even if you reload or close the page.

How to restore an archived server

If there isn't enough free disk for what it had, it comes back with what there is (never less than its game's minimum) and the panel tells you. When there's more, give it more with “Adjust”.

  1. Press “Restore or adjust”

    On the archived server's card.

  2. Choose what it comes back with, if you want

By default, with the RAM and disk it had before. If you choose others, they're saved for when you restore it. It needs free RAM in your account: if there isn't any, archive another, take some from one with “Adjust” or buy more.

  3. Press “Restore”

It comes back exactly as it was. Start it whenever you like.

“Archived: not enough RAM”

If you stop paying one of your plans and your account's RAM doesn't cover everything, we archive whole servers instead of cutting their RAM. Those show up as “Archived: not enough RAM (comes back by itself)” and come back by themselves as soon as there's RAM: when you pay, or buy a plan or more RAM.

The ones you archive yourself don't come back by themselves: they stay archived until you restore them.

The disk of archived servers

Archived servers count towards your account's disk. If together they take up more than you pay for (for example, after cancelling a plan), we warn you straight away, after 7 days and the day before. After 14 days the archived servers that don't fit are deleted, the ones archived longest first.

To avoid it: buy RAM (each GB comes with 5 GB of disk), give some server less disk or delete what you don't use. And if you want to keep a world forever without paying for it, download it to your computer first from “Backups” or “Files”.

Archive or delete?

“Delete”, in “Adjust”, removes the server with its world and all its files and frees its RAM and disk. It can't be undone, which is why it asks you to type DELETE. If there's any chance you'll come back, archive it.

A plan's main server can't be deleted while other servers hang off that plan, but it can be archived.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose the world when I archive a server?

No. Its world and all its files stay; it just stops and frees its RAM.

Does an archived server cost money?

There's no separate charge: what you pay for is your plans. Archived, it uses no RAM, though it does use the disk its files take up.

How long can a server stay archived?

With no limit, as long as your account has a plan up to date and its disk fits in what you pay for.

Can I archive the free server?

No. The free server stops by itself when nobody's on and stopped it costs nothing; what deletes it is 7 days without anybody playing.

Shall we set it up for you?

Game servers from €6 a month, never oversold: your RAM is yours alone. And if you'd rather start without paying, there's a free server, no card needed.
