Jobs Reborn: Jobs and Pay on Your Minecraft Server
Once a server has an economy, the next question is always the same: so how do you earn money? Jobs Reborn answers it with jobs: each player joins miner, woodcutter, farmer or hunter and gets paid for what they already do while playing, levels up and earns more. It's free, a huge number of survival servers use it and it's set up in no time.
What you need
Jobs Reborn is a plugin, so the server has to be Paper or similar (on NapNodes, Minecraft is delivered on Paper). It doesn't work with Fabric, Forge or NeoForge.
It needs CMILib, a library by the same author (it won't start without it), and an economy to pay wages into: EssentialsX with VaultUnlocked, as in the economy guide. Without an economy, jobs level up but don't pay money.
Players don't install anything: they join with the usual Minecraft Java.
Rather not set it up yourself? Minecraft servers from €6 a month, no contract and a full refund within 72 hours. Or create a free Minecraft server, no card needed.
Installing it
Make a backup
If your server has backups, «Backups» → create one before adding plugins. If something goes wrong, you're back in a minute.
Set up the economy
In «Mods & plugins», search for EssentialsX and VaultUnlocked and press «Install» on each. If you already have an economy, skip this step.
Download Jobs Reborn and CMILib
Both are published on SpigotMC (search for «Jobs Reborn» and «CMILib»). Check on their page which Minecraft versions each download is for: if your server's isn't out yet, wait for it to be published instead of forcing an old one. If they show up in «Mods & plugins», install them from there.
Upload them to plugins and restart
In «Files», go into the plugins folder, upload both .jar files and press «Restart». On startup, Jobs creates the plugins/Jobs folder with its settings and, inside, the jobs folder with one file per job.
Check it loads
In game,
/jobs browse. If the job list shows up, you're done. If not, check the «Console»: it's almost always that CMILib is missing or one of the downloads isn't for your version.
The player commands
/jobs browse shows the available jobs and what each one pays. /jobs join miner signs the player up as a miner (swap miner for the job they want) and /jobs leave miner takes them off it.
/jobs info miner says which actions pay in that job and how much; /jobs stats, the level and experience of each job you have; and /jobs top miner, that job's leaderboard, which makes for plenty of rivalry between friends.
Miner, woodcutter, digger, farmer, hunter, fisherman, builder, crafter, weaponsmith, enchanter, brewer and explorer come ready-made. Command names are in English, as they come.
How much each thing pays (and how to change it)
Each job is a file in plugins/Jobs/jobs: miner.yml, farmer.yml… Open it from «Files». Under each action (Break is breaking, Place is placing, Kill is killing…) comes the list of blocks or mobs, and on each one three numbers: income is the money, points are the plugin's points and experience is the job experience, the one that raises the level.
To make diamond pay more, find diamond_ore under Break in miner.yml and change its income. If it isn't there, add it with the same indentation as the others:
Miner:
Break:
diamond_ore:
income: 20.0
points: 20.0
experience: 30.0Keeping the economy from breaking
Those numbers aren't the final wage. The default jobs raise what they pay by 1 % for each job level and lower it by 5 % for each extra job the player has: someone who joins everything earns less in each. The formulas are at the top of each file (income-progression-equation) and can be changed.
The most common mistake is paying too much for something repeated with no effort: an automatic stone or pumpkin farm turns into a money machine and within a week everyone is a millionaire. Pay little for what can be automated and more for what takes effort (rare ores, tough mobs).
If you want to limit how many jobs each player can have at once, change max-jobs in plugins/Jobs/generalConfig.yml, or give it by rank with the permission jobs.max.2, jobs.max.3… in LuckPerms (for example, one job for newcomers and three for long-time players).
Applying the changes
Save the file
In «Files», save after editing. Mind the indentation: in YAML one space too many or a tab breaks the whole file.
Reload Jobs
/jobs reloadin game as an operator (orjobs reloadin the «Console», without the slash). Don't use/reload, which reloads every plugin and leaves more than one half-broken. If you don't see the change, «Restart» always works.Test it
Join the job, break the block you changed and check your balance with
/balance. If the «Console» shows an error when reloading, it says which file and which line.
Ideas to get the most out of it
With signs: Jobs Reborn lets you place signs to join a job with one click, by writing [jobs] on the first line. A board at spawn with one sign per job is the first thing newcomers see.
Give them something to spend it on: with ChestShop players sell to each other, and with Towny money is used to found towns. A wage with nothing to buy gets boring in two days.
For an RPG server, Jobs goes well with mcMMO or AuraSkills: they level up skills and Jobs pays.
If you don't have a server yet, on NapNodes you can create a Minecraft one for free, without a card, with Paper and «Mods & plugins», and set up the economy with jobs this very afternoon.
Frequently asked questions
What is Jobs Reborn?
A free plugin for Paper and Spigot servers that adds jobs (miner, woodcutter, farmer, hunter…). Each player joins the ones they want and earns server money for what they do while playing, more the higher their level.
Does Jobs Reborn need Vault?
To pay money, yes: it needs an economy with Vault, like EssentialsX with VaultUnlocked. It also always needs CMILib, its author's library.
How do I join a job?
With /jobs browse you see the available ones and with /jobs join and the job name (for example, /jobs join miner) you sign up. With /jobs leave you quit it.
How do I change what a block pays in Jobs Reborn?
In plugins/Jobs/jobs, open the job's file (miner.yml for miner), find the block under its action (Break for breaking) and change income. Then, /jobs reload.
How many jobs can a player have?
As many as max-jobs says in generalConfig.yml, or what the jobs.max permissions give by rank. Each extra job slightly lowers what each one pays in the ready-made jobs.
Shall we set it up for you?
Minecraft servers from €6 a month, never oversold: your RAM is yours alone. And if you'd rather start without paying, there's a free Minecraft server, no card needed.
Your server doesn't show up in the game? Check it in a second with “Is my Minecraft server online?”: players, version and MOTD, free. Need a player's UUID for the whitelist or permissions? Look it up here. Handing out enchanted items? Build the command with the /give generator.
