The Best Hytale Mods for Playing with Friends (Update 7)
For playing with friends, the mods that add the most are the ones that share the game among everyone: a map you discover together (BetterMap), parties with teleport (PartyPro), levels and classes (RPG Leveling) and bosses that scale to how many of you there are (Endgame & QoL). This list comes from CurseForge, checked on 23 October 2026: they all have a version for Update 7 and run only on the server, so your friends don't install anything.
Before adding anything
Check the version. Hytale is in early access and every big update breaks mods. On each mod's CurseForge page, the file has to say 0.7 (Update 7); if it only says 0.6 or older, don't put it on an up-to-date server (why it fails).
Server only. In Hytale every mod runs on the server: players who join use them without downloading anything (how it works). There are no “client” mods to pass to your friends.
A few at a time, and with a backup. If you upload eight at once and the server won't start, you won't know which one it was. And removing a mod mid-game can make whatever depended on it disappear: items, pets, progress.
Rather not set it up yourself? Hytale servers from €8 a month, no contract and a full refund within 72 hours. Or create a free Hytale server, no card needed.
One map for everyone: BetterMap
BetterMap (by Paralaxe, file 1.3.10 from 20 October). It improves the world map: it remembers what you've explored between sessions and has a cave mode and waypoints. For playing as a group it brings what people appreciate most: shared exploration, where you all fill in a single map and see what your friends have discovered; shared waypoints, and a radar with nearby players on the compass.
It's configured with /bm (or /bettermap); the server settings, with /bm config, need the bettermap.command.config permission, and shared exploration is an option the admin turns on (how to give permissions). Its page warns that it counts servers and players (hstats); you can turn that off from its admin panel.
Parties with friends: PartyPro
PartyPro (by tsumori, file 1.0.36 from 12 October). Parties of up to 16 players, public or password-protected, that persist through server restarts. Everyone sees the others' health and stamina, the distance and whether they're online; you teleport to each other with /p tp, have party chat and place markers in the world with the middle mouse button.
Friendly fire is blocked by default and the party leader can turn it on. It works on its own; if you also have RPG Leveling or MMO Skill Tree, it shares party experience without anything else. Everything starts with /p (or /party).
Levels and classes: RPG Leveling And Stats/Skills
RPG Leveling And Stats/Skills (by Zuxaw_dev, file 0.4.2 from 12 October). Experience for killing, mining, chopping, harvesting and taming; levels, points you spend on damage, defence, health, mana and more, six classes with their passives, and zones with higher-level creatures. The stats screen (/lvl gui) has a leaderboard with the top 100 on the server, offline players included: perfect for a bit of rivalry between friends.
For the admin: PvP experience can be on or off, the death penalty is optional and there are four difficulties. Everything is tweaked in its JSON files and with /lvl commands, with rpgleveling.command.* permissions.
Bosses and dungeons for the group
Endgame & QoL (by Lewaii, file 6.0.4 from 18 October). Content for when you already have everything: multi-phase bosses, elites, reworked dungeons, the Luminia dimension, quests, pets and runes. It's designed for groups: boss health goes up 50 % for each extra player and dungeon chests give loot to each player, not just the first to arrive. It's configured in-game with /eg config. It doesn't need other mods; for Update 6 its author points to 5.4.x.
MAJOR DUNGEONS (by MAJOR76, file 0.4.15 from 18 October). Instanced dungeons you enter through an ancient portal, with bosses that drop unique weapons and armour, a merchant who takes dungeon coins, mounts and companions. Combat revolves around blocking and stunning. Its page says nothing about groups: it plays the same, but there are no settings for the number of players.
Taming and breeding animals: Alec's Animal Husbandry
Alec's Animal Husbandry! (by alechilles, file 4.1.1 from 22 October). Taming, breeding and mounts with the game's animals: they get hungry, thirsty and happy, offspring inherit traits, they level up and follow orders (follow, stay, go home). Predators are tamed with tranquillisers and fight by your side.
It needs two other mods by the same author, which you also have to upload: Alec's Tamework! (the base: every animal has an owner and there are per-owner animal limits, handy on a shared server) and Alec's Coops!.
To progress faster: enchantments and vein mining
Simple Enchantments (by Herolias, file 1.2.1 from 12 October). A craftable enchanting table and over 30 enchantments for weapons, tools and armour, applied with scrolls. It plays without commands; only /enchant and /enchantconfig are for admins. Two enchantments need Perfect Parries.
Vein Mining (by EineNT, file 2.5.0 from 12 October). Hold Alt, mine one block and the whole vein comes down; the tool takes wear for each block. Each player sets it up with /vm (ores only, everything, tunnels…); the advanced settings are in VeinMining.json.
How to add them to the server
You download them from CurseForge (the .jar or .zip file for version 0.7) and drop them in the server's mods folder; they load at startup. What you install with the in-game mod browser stays on your PC: for a dedicated server you have to upload it (the full guide). Each mod adds some memory; with a long list, check how much RAM your server needs.
With NapNodes: “Files” and “Restart”
Download the files
From each mod's CurseForge page, the one for version 0.7. If the mod needs others (like Alec's Animal Husbandry), download them too.
Upload them to the mods folder
In “Files” → Server → mods (if it doesn't exist, create it). Upload them as they are, without unzipping. Hytale has no one-click mod installer: this is how you add them.
Restart and check the console
With “Restart”. In “Console” you'll see which mods load and whether any fail. If the server won't start, remove the last one you uploaded.
Configure them
Many create their settings folder inside mods (BetterMap, for example, mods/bettermap/config.json). Admin commands are typed in “Console” or in chat as an operator.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best Hytale mods for playing with friends?
For group play, and up to date with Update 7: BetterMap (shared map), PartyPro (parties), RPG Leveling (levels and classes), Endgame & QoL and MAJOR DUNGEONS (bosses and dungeons) and Alec's Animal Husbandry (taming and breeding).
Do my friends have to install the server's mods?
No. In Hytale, mods run on the server and players use them when they join, without downloading anything.
How do I know if a Hytale mod works on Update 7?
On its CurseForge page: the file has to say 0.7. If it only says 0.6 or older, it was made for another version and may stop the server from starting.
Can you remove mods mid-game?
You can, but whatever depended on the mod (items, pets, progress) may disappear. Make a backup first.
Where do you download Hytale mods for a server?
From CurseForge, where their authors publish them (the official server manual names it as a source of mods). For a dedicated server, you download the .jar or .zip and upload it to its mods folder.
Shall we set it up for you?
Hytale servers from €8 a month, never oversold: your RAM is yours alone. And if you'd rather start without paying, there's a free Hytale server, no card needed.
