How to Play Minecraft Java and Bedrock Together on One Server

Java and Bedrock are two different games that can't see each other. With two plugins on a Paper server, mobile and console players join the same world as the PC players.

How it works

Geyser translates what Bedrock sends into something a Java server understands, and Floodgate lets Bedrock players in without buying Minecraft Java. Both are plugins: you need a Paper (or Purpur) server, not a modded one (which type of server you have).

Bedrock uses UDP. The easy way is to have Geyser listen on the same port as the Java server: that way the address is the same for everyone.

Rather not set it up yourself? Minecraft servers from €6 a month, no contract and a full refund within 72 hours. Or create a free Minecraft server, no card needed.

On NapNodes

  1. Open “Mods & plugins” in the panel

The “Bedrock” tab, then “Turn on Bedrock”. Geyser, Floodgate and ViaVersion are installed and the server restarts twice: a couple of minutes.

  2. Share the address and port

Bedrock players use the same address as Java players, plus the port shown in the panel.

  3. From mobile or Windows

“Play” → “Servers” → “Add Server”: address and port. Done.

  4. From Xbox, PlayStation or Switch

Consoles don't let you add external servers. You use BedrockConnect: change the console's DNS to theirs, join through one of the featured servers and a list appears where you add the address.

  5. If you have the whitelist turned on

Bedrock players are added with fwhitelist add Name in the console, not with whitelist add (the whitelist commands).

What doesn't work

With mods (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge) it can't be done: Geyser doesn't translate mods. Nor on a server older than 1.20.5: Geyser only works on Paper 1.20.5 or later (what you lose on an old version). A few details change for Bedrock players (certain plugin menus, the odd unusual block), but normal gameplay works the same.

Frequently asked questions

Can Minecraft Java and Bedrock play together?

Yes, on a Java (Paper) server with the Geyser and Floodgate plugins. Bedrock players join without a Java account.

What port does Bedrock use?

19132 (UDP) by default, but with Geyser it can use the same port as the Java server. That's how it works on NapNodes: same address and same port.

Can you join from Xbox, PlayStation or Switch?

Yes, but consoles don't let you add servers directly: you use BedrockConnect (by changing the console's DNS).

Shall we set it up for you?

Minecraft servers from €6 a month, never oversold: your RAM is yours alone. And if you'd rather start without paying, there's a free Minecraft server, no card needed.

Your server doesn't show up in the game? Check it in a second with “Is my Minecraft server online?”: players, version and MOTD, free. Need a player's UUID for the whitelist or permissions? Look it up here. Handing out enchanted items? Build the command with the /give generator.
