Link Your Hytale Server to Your Account: the Auth Link and Code

A Hytale server won't let anyone in until you link it to a Hytale account that owns the game. You do it once, with a link and a code, and if you save the credentials to disk it won't ask again. This is what the official server manual and Hypixel Studios' authentication guide say (checked on 12 October 2026).

Why it has to be linked

With the account linked, the server opens its session with Hytale's services and can check that every player who joins is who they say they are. It also uses it to download the game and its updates. Hypixel also requires it to curb abuse.

There's a limit: 500 servers at once per game licence. And linking it doesn't make you an admin in the game: that's done separately, with “op add” (the Hytale server permissions guide explains it).

Rather not set it up yourself? Hytale servers from €8 a month, no contract and a full refund within 72 hours. Or create a free Hytale server, no card needed.

Linking it step by step (server on your PC)

You do it with “auth login device”, which also works for a remote server. There's also “auth login browser”, which opens the browser on the machine itself, but it only works if the server runs on a computer with a desktop.

  1. Start the server

It starts without being linked, but it doesn't accept players.

  2. Type “auth login device” in its console

In the server console, not in chat: until it's linked, you can't join yet. It shows an accounts.hytale.com address and a code.

  3. Open the address and confirm the code

In any browser, including your phone's. Sign in with your Hytale account and enter the code. It expires after 15 minutes (the console says “expires in 900 seconds”): if you miss it, run the command again.

  4. Wait for “Authentication successful”

It shows up in the console. From then on, the server accepts players.

  5. If you have several profiles, pick one

The server lists them numbered: “auth select” and the profile's number or name.

Keeping it linked after a restart

“auth persistence” sets where the server keeps its credentials: Memory (in memory only, lost when it shuts down) or Encrypted (encrypted on disk). So you don't have to link it on every restart, type “auth persistence Encrypted” once.

With that, the session lasts an hour and the server renews it by itself before it expires. As long as it's running, it stays linked with no time limit. The only thing that expires is the renewal, after 30 days without use: if the server is off for more than 30 days, you'll have to link it again when it comes back.

Checking whether it's linked (and the error messages)

“auth status” shows the state: which mode it's linked with (OAuth Device, for example) and how long the session has left. “auth logout” unlinks it and “auth cancel” stops an attempt halfway.

Since Update 7 (October 2026) you can run “auth login device” again with the server already linked, without unlinking it first: if the new attempt fails, it keeps the session it had.

If you see “No server tokens configured” in the console, the server isn't linked. If you see “Token validation failed. Server starting unauthenticated.”, it had credentials but they aren't valid (expired or broken). Either way, link it again. If it starts linked and your friends still can't join, the problem is somewhere else: can't connect to my Hytale server.

On NapNodes

It's linked to your Hytale account, not one of ours: the server runs under your profile, which is exactly what the official server list asks for to list it. The credentials are stored encrypted, so it stays linked even when you restart it or it updates. If the card ever says “Your Hytale server isn't linked”, click “Link to my account” (or type “auth login device” in “Console”). The first time:

  1. Start it

The panel shows a card: “Link your server to your Hytale account”, with the code.

  2. Open the link and confirm

With “Open the Hytale link”, you sign in with your account and confirm the code within 15 minutes. If it expires, “Request another code”.

  3. Wait for the game to download

Once linked, the server downloads the game (about 3 GB) and starts by itself within a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Hytale server ask me to log in?

Because a Hytale server needs an account that owns the game to talk to Hytale's services, check the players who join and download the game. Until it's linked, nobody can join.

How do I link my Hytale server to my account?

Type “auth login device” in the server console, open the address it shows, sign in with your Hytale account and confirm the code.

Do I have to link the server every time I restart it?

No, if you save the credentials to disk with “auth persistence Encrypted”. You only have to do it again if it's off for more than 30 days.

How many servers can I have with one Hytale account?

Up to 500 at once per game licence, according to Hypixel Studios.

What does “No server tokens configured” mean in Hytale?

That the server isn't linked to any account. Link it with “auth login device”; on NapNodes, with “Link to my account” on the panel card.

Shall we set it up for you?

Hytale servers from €8 a month, never oversold: your RAM is yours alone. And if you'd rather start without paying, there's a free Hytale server, no card needed.
