How to Add Workshop Maps to a Project Zomboid Server (and Which Work on Build 42)

A Workshop map goes on a Project Zomboid server like any mod (its number and its Mod ID) plus a third line, Map=, with the map's folder in front of Muldraugh, KY. First, check it's made for Build 42: Raven Creek and Bedford Falls, the two most famous, are still Build 41 in their original versions.

The three things you need for a map

Workshop ID: the Workshop number, the “id=” in its page's address. Mod ID: the internal name the author puts in the description (“Mod ID: …”). Map Folder: the map's folder, which is usually in the description too (“Map Folder: …”). The first two are the same as for any mod (how to add them); the third is what makes the map appear.

The folder goes in the Map= line of the .ini, separated by semicolons and in front of the game's own map, Muldraugh, KY, which always goes last. For example, with Constown: Map=Constown, KY;Muldraugh, KY. Spaces and commas in the name go in exactly as they are.

Order matters: the game itself explains that maps higher in the list take priority, and that if two overlap in the world, the higher one wins. If two maps cover the same cells, one usually hides the other: authors tend to say on their page which maps they clash with.

Adding a map, step by step

  1. Note the three values

Number, Mod ID and Map Folder, from the map's page. If it needs other mods (tile packs, mostly), they appear under “Required items”: note those too and put them first.

  2. Add the mod

Number in WorkshopItems= and Mod ID in Mods= (in Build 42, with a backslash in front: Mods=\Constown42). The mod list tool writes all three lines for you, including Map=, from each map's details.

  3. Add the folder to Map=

In front of Muldraugh, KY: Map=Constown, KY;Muldraugh, KY. With several maps, in whatever priority order you want, with the game's map last.

  4. If you want to start there, the spawn zone

The zones where players can spawn are in <name>_spawnregions.lua, next to the .ini. If the map comes with its own spawn points, add a line like { name = "Constown, KY", file = "media/maps/Constown, KY/spawnpoints.lua" }. If it doesn't, you reach the map on foot or by car.

  5. Restart and check

Keep the server stopped while you edit. On start it downloads the map (some weigh more than 100 MB) and players download it when they join.

Adding a map to a game already in progress

You can, but what's already generated doesn't change: areas you've already visited stay as they were. The authors themselves say so on their pages: either you start a new world, or you have to delete the already-visited map chunks of that area. If the map lands somewhere nobody has been yet, adding it is usually enough.

Removing a map mid-game is worse: whatever was on it disappears. Always make a backup first, and if you want to change a lot, start a new world without deleting the old one.

Do Raven Creek and Bedford Falls work on Build 42?

Raven Creek (Workshop 2196102849, Mod ID RavenCreek) says on its page that it's only for 41.78.16, and on the Workshop it only carries the Build 41 tag. Its last update is from October 2025. On a Build 42 server, no.

There's a port, Raven Creek B42 (Workshop 3484263516, Mod ID RavenCreekB42, Map Folder Raven Creek B42), by another author and unofficial: it says it will be taken down when the original author releases their version and that they haven't had time to test it. It was last updated on 20 September 2026. It's the way to have Raven Creek on Build 42 today, with those warnings.

Bedford Falls (Workshop 522891356) only carries the Build 41 tag and hasn't been updated since December 2021. Grapeseed (Workshop 2463499011) is billed as a “B42 Unstable Remake”, but its last update is from March 2025, before 42.20: test it before starting a long game.

If your group won't give those maps up, the other way out is to play on Build 41: how to stay on Build 41 (legacy41).

Maps up to date with Build 42

Checked on the Workshop on 22 October 2026: they carry the Build 42 tag and have been updated after 42.20 (29 July 2026). Before adding them, read the latest from their author.

Constown (Workshop 3480990544, Mod ID Constown42, Map Folder Constown, KY). A town with a motel, workshops, a trailer park and farms, west of Rosewood on the main road. Its author says it's compatible with Grapeseed. Updated on 2 October 2026.

Tikitown & Powerplant (Workshop 3037854728, Mod ID tikitown, Map Folder Tikitown). A city between Riverside and West Point, rebuilt for Build 42 with more than 250 new buildings, and two optional extras in the same mod: the power plant (Mod ID TikitownPower) and a scrapyard (TikitownScrapWorks). Its author has tested it in multiplayer with a community. Updated on 12 October 2026; it weighs about 170 MB.

Rabbit Hash, KY (Workshop 2815966702, Mod ID RabbitHashKY, Map Folder RabbitHashKY). A river town between Riverside and West Point. Its Build 42 version is preliminary (its author says so, listing the known bugs) and the author says that, with North Peak, it has to be loaded first. Updated on 3 September 2026.

Petroville (Workshop 2886261613, Mod ID Petroville, Map Folder Petroville42). South-east of Muldraugh. It's a “lite” port to Build 42: the original files were lost and it won't get fixes or new content. Updated on 30 August 2026.

Raccoon City B42 (Workshop 3388468313, Mod ID RaccoonCityB42, Map Folder RaccoonCity). West of Muldraugh, inspired by Resident Evil, with its own puzzles and items, including a vaccine that cures the infection: it changes the game, so think twice if you want a serious playthrough. Updated on 28 September 2026.

Maps that aren't towns

Some mods use the Map= line even though they don't add a town. For example, [B42]Project RV Interior (Workshop 3543229299, Mod ID PROJECTRVInterior42), which lets you go inside vans and lorries as if they were camper vans: its author asks you to put map_distanciado in Map= and load the mod first. If a mod has a “Map Folder” in its description, it goes in Map= even if it isn't a map as such.

How much RAM and disk maps need

Every map you add is more world for the server to load and simulate, and of all mods, maps need the most memory. With a couple of maps and a few mods, 8 GB is more comfortable than 6 (the RAM guide). On disk, the big ones are over 100 MB each, plus what the world takes up as you explore them.

On NapNodes

  1. Add the mod in “Mods”

In the panel's “Mods” tab, search for the map by name (or paste its Workshop link) and click “Add”. The panel takes the Mod ID from its page; if it has several, like Tikitown, you tick the ones you want. The panel adds the Build 42 backslash for you.

  2. Type the folder in “Map”

In “Settings” → “The essentials” → “Map”, the Map Folder in front of Muldraugh, KY, separated by a semicolon (Constown, KY;Muldraugh, KY). It saves by itself.

  3. Spawn zones, if you want them

With the server stopped, in “Files” open .cache/Server/napnodes_spawnregions.lua and add the map's line, as in the step-by-step above.

  4. Restart

Click “Restart” and watch the “Console”: it downloads the map and starts. On the free server the disk is 15 GB and the game takes about 7: only a few big maps fit; for several, a plan with 8 GB is better.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a Workshop map to my Project Zomboid server?

Like a mod (number in WorkshopItems= and Mod ID in Mods=) plus its Map Folder in the Map= line, in front of Muldraugh, KY: Map=Constown, KY;Muldraugh, KY. Restart the server.

Does Raven Creek work on Build 42?

The original (Workshop 2196102849) says it's only for 41.78.16. For Build 42 there's an unofficial port, Raven Creek B42 (Workshop 3484263516), whose author warns they haven't had time to test it.

Where do I find a map's Map Folder?

In the map's Workshop description, usually at the end, next to the Workshop ID and the Mod ID (“Map Folder: …”).

Can I add a map to a game in progress?

Yes, but it only appears in areas that haven't been generated yet. If you've already been there, you need a new world or to delete those map chunks. Make a backup first.

Why isn't the map showing up on my server?

Almost always the folder is missing from Map=, it's after Muldraugh, KY instead of before, the Mod ID is missing the Build 42 backslash, or the map is Build 41 only.

Shall we set it up for you?
