Project Zomboid Admin Commands: The Full List (Build 42)

You type them in the in-game chat with a “/” in front, or in the server console without it, and you need to be an admin. Here they are by topic, each with an example. If one doesn't work for you, /help shows the list for your exact version, and /help followed by the command shows its help.

First: how to type them

Player names go in quotes: /kickuser "Bob Zombie". Item names are case-sensitive: Base.Axe works and base.axe doesn't.

In the server console you have no character, so commands that act on “you” (like /additem without a name) need the player's name there.

To use them, your account has to be an admin. The guide to running a Project Zomboid server explains how to give yourself admin with the server's admin account.

Rather not set it up yourself? Project Zomboid servers from €12 a month, no contract and a full refund within 72 hours. Or create a free Project Zomboid server, no card needed.

Players, accounts and bans

/setaccesslevel "name" "level": changes a player's permissions. Levels: admin, moderator, overseer, gm, observer and none (normal player). Example: /setaccesslevel "Bob" "moderator".

/kickuser "name" -r "reason": kicks them off the server; they can join again.

/banuser "name" -ip -r "reason": bans them; with -ip, their IP too. Undo it with /unbanuser "name".

/banid SteamID and /unbanid SteamID: ban or unban a whole Steam account, even if they change their username. If you only have the link to their profile, get their SteamID64.

/adduser "name" "password": creates an account (what you need on a whitelisted server: how to set one up). /removeuserfromwhitelist "name" takes it off the list. /setpassword "name" "new": changes an account's password, for someone who has forgotten theirs.

/players: who's online. /voiceban "name" -true: takes away their voice chat (-false gives it back).

Items, XP and vehicles

/additem "name" Module.Item quantity: gives items. Example: /additem "Bob" Base.Axe 5. Without a name, it gives them to you.

/addxp "name" Skill=amount: gives experience. Example: /addxp "Bob" Woodwork=2.

/addvehicle "Module.Vehicle" "name": spawns a vehicle next to a player (or at x,y,z coordinates). Example: /addvehicle "Base.VanAmbulance" "Bob".

Moving around and keeping watch

/teleport "name": takes you to that player. /teleport "one" "other": takes the first player to the second. When you arrive, wait for the map to load.

/teleportto x,y,z: takes you to some coordinates. Example: /teleportto 10000,11000,0. To find your own, the server has the ShowCoordinates option, which shows them in the bottom right.

/godmode "name" -true: invincible. /invisible "name" -true: zombies can't see them. /noclip "name" -true: walks through walls. Use -false to turn it off; without a name, it applies to you.

Zombies, events and weather

/createhorde amount "name": a horde next to a player. Example: /createhorde 150 "Bob". Without a name, next to you (from the console, the name is required).

/chopper: the helicopter event over a random player. /gunshot: a gunshot that draws zombies. /alarm: sets off the alarm of the building you're in (you have to be inside a room).

/startrain intensity (1 to 100) and /stoprain. /startstorm hours (in-game) and /stopweather. /lightning and /thunder "name": a lightning strike or a thunderclap.

The server

/servermsg "text": a message to everyone online. Handy before a restart.

/save: saves the world now. /quit: saves and shuts the server down.

/showoptions: the server options and their values. /changeoption Option "value": changes one (example: /changeoption PVP "false"; what each option does). /reloadoptions: re-reads the .ini and sends it to the players.

/checkModsNeedUpdate: checks whether any Workshop mod has a new version and notes it in the server log.

/releasesafehouse: releases the safehouse you own (safehouses and factions). /log and /stats: logs and statistics, for tracking down problems.

If a command doesn't exist in your version

Build 41 also had /addusertowhitelist and /addalltowhitelist, to whitelist people who had already played. The wiki list revised for Build 42 no longer includes them. If /help doesn't show them on your server, create the accounts with /adduser.

With NapNodes

Commands go in the panel's “Console”, without the slash, with the server running. The in-game admin's username and password are in “Settings” → “In-game admin”; with the server running, “Create a new admin” makes you another one at random.

To change server options permanently, it's better to use “Settings”: every setting in plain English, with a search box. They apply on restart.

Frequently asked questions

What are the admin commands in Project Zomboid?

The most used: /setaccesslevel, /kickuser, /banuser, /additem, /addxp, /teleport, /godmode, /invisible, /createhorde, /servermsg and /save. Type /help on your server to see the list for your version.

How do I spawn items in Project Zomboid?

With /additem "yourname" Base.Item quantity, for example /additem "Bob" Base.Axe 5. The item name is case-sensitive.

How do I teleport to another player?

With /teleport "name". To bring one player to another, /teleport "one" "other"; to coordinates, /teleportto x,y,z.

How do I spawn a zombie horde?

With /createhorde amount "player", for example /createhorde 150 "Bob". Without a name, it appears next to you.

Why aren't my admin commands working?

Either your account isn't an admin (give yourself admin with /setaccesslevel from the admin account), or you've mistyped a name: items are case-sensitive and players go in quotes. In the server console, leave out the slash.

Shall we set it up for you?

Project Zomboid servers from €12 a month, never oversold: your RAM is yours alone. And if you'd rather start without paying, there's a free Project Zomboid server, no card needed.

Not sure whether your server is online? Check it in a second with the Project Zomboid server status checker: players, version and password, free.
